Ordinary she thought. Today would be an “ordinary” day. She woke up and got ready, like she always does. She ventured off to work, like she always does. She worked the store, like she always does. Then he walked in. He was tall, a plus. He was cute, another plus. He had an accent, triple plus. And he was charming? There must be something wrong here, because THIS was an ordinary day.
Bjørn was looking for soap, but instead he found Megan. He probably said all the wrong things but he can write it off because of the accent. ;) Whatever he said or did, he left Megan smitten. They talked about life, God, soap, and each other. The next day he received an email from her. She told him that she had a major crush on him. The girl of his dreams?… had a crush…. on him? Yep. And so they got married.
Ok, so I just went straight to the end. There was a bunch of dates and hanging out and food and music, oh and this one story where Megan changed her Facebook profile picture to her kissing a guy in a cowboy hat and it made Bjorn really sad, but then he realized later it was actually him in the picture! HA! I mean when two people know they are meant for each other it’s truly a beautiful thing.
Megan first told me they were getting married in her parents backyard in San Dimas that had an amazing view. They were fixing up the house when we came by to check it out, but we were excited as she explained her vision for the wedding. She was meshing their two worlds together! Megan is American and Bjørn is Dutch. Together they graced antique stores, garage sales, thrift stores, and anywhere they could get their hands on the little blue and white Holland figurines. When we arrived on their wedding day, I’m pretty sure I squeeked a little with my excitement. It was a fresh new idea I had not seen before and so beautiful and perfectly executed! Just look at all the details below!
Megan & Bjørn, you are two of the sweetest people I have ever met. I am so blessed that you asked us to shoot your wedding. You two were made for each other, it is clear :) You both have hearts of Gold, I cannot wait to see what’s in store for you in the future including beautifully tall Dutchican babies. ;) (yeah I just made that word up)
Bjørn’s ring was custom made with stone’s from his family’s mine in Australia. Pretty incredible, and also matched the color scheme :)
Megan’s garter was handmade by the lovely Rosebudlips on Etsy.
Megan wore a beautifully classic and vintage inspired David’s Bridal gown.
Stunning Megan, you are just stunning!
Two of the sweetest and coolest Bridesmaids I’ve ever met. Missy & Katie, you were awesome and lovely :)
fave.
werk it.
Megan has the BEST smile EVER. I’m incredibly jealous.
Well, we know now where Megan gets her good looks from! ;) Marilyn was such a calm and fun Mother-of-the-bride too.
Laundry fund… what a cute idea!
Loved the details for their wedding! Who would have though red, white, and blue could come together so nicely!
Their ADORABLE cake was created by Some Crust Bakery.
Megan & Bjørn opted to not do a First Look, so we did something special anyway. Megan saw a picture of a couple on either side of the wall where they couldn’t see each other but they could hold hands. I thought it was sooo cute so we found a wall in her parents house toward the back of the house. It was perfect!
Although it was a bit tight for me, thank goodness for that 16mm!
And the picture that Jay captured on the left pretty much sums up Bjørn. haha
Jay jumped in front of them as we ran down the street for a few moments to get pictures of Megan & Bjørn. I love this reaction he got!

So always encourage a First Look to optimize time, but never pressure. A first look is when the bride & groom opt to see each other before the wedding, to get most of the photos out of the way before the wedding and eliminating the giant gap between the ceremony and reception like at most weddings. The couple is always best at deciding what is best for them and their day. If a couple doesn’t get their “first look” moment, we have a rule where immediately after the ceremony they get a chance to take it all in. Since the wedding was all located at Megan’s parent’s house it was essential that we get out of there and thankfully we found a few quiet spots just down the street. :)

Michelle Suan did a lovely job with the florals. :)
I’m go glad our clients think we are funny, you just can’t fake sincere reactions!
cuteness.
RAWR
Oh Megan you KILL ME!
Yeah, I may or may not have said something a bit awkwardly scandalous during the moment below. I definitely can’t repeat it whether I did or didn’t say it.
All I can say now is, are you confused? Cause I am.
The brooch on Megan’s bouquet is a family heirloom, absolutely gorgeous!!
There’s that smile again!! Augh…
Yes, Bjørn, you are cute too ;)
Doilies, vintage books, lanterns, milk glass, red roses, and little Holland figurines. PERFECT.

How unique is this guestbook idea? They had their guests write their names on tags and pin where they are from on a big map!

a close-up on the Netherlands :)

A little treat for their guests, they had a Silhouette artist come to create everyone’s personal silhouettes! I’m definitely going to be doing this with myself, Jay and the girls. It was so fun!
… and sweet Missy with her vintage camera…

First Dance.

Have a lovely weekend friends!
